The best result I tend to get is improved confidence, a better sense of what my pupils need to learn to get to where they want to get. It's a pleasure and privilege witnessing a young person gain a sense of their own worth and potential! With greater confidence, students do better in school and in exams.
Pupils have come to me with a wide variety of subjects with a similar variety of needs and ambitions - from getting into farming college, the university of their choice including medical and veterinary schools and Oxbridge, as well as helping mature students return to learning after a long break - e.g., Armed Service applicants and PGCE students and teacher training applicants.
While tuition cannot guarantee certain results, as our children sit their exams by themselves, practically all of my clients see great improvements in their child's abilities which is reflected in improved reports from school and results.
I adapt to my pupils rather than expect them to adapt to a system.
For many young people, school and college or university are complicated systems that are difficult to navigate - so much information has to be learned in so little time.
Tuition removes the noise of everyday schooling to focus on what the student requires to excel.
Learning about my pupils and their individual needs and ambitio ns, we can learn quicker and more effectively.
With practically 30 years of being involved in educating people at different levels and ages, I can quickly adapt to my students as well as help provide them with a sense of self-motivation, confidence, and direction.
My job as a tutor is to find what works for the students' minds rather than assume that they will understand how I understand. Over the years and with experience I have picked up a variety of tools in the kit to help students - and when something is not quite working for one person, by the next lesson I will have thought about how they view life and learning and how to help them better.

It depends - some students will need to repeat exercises we have worked on during the week. If they attend school, I've often found that doing 20-30 minutes a week of work that is personally tailored for them, they improve much faster in confidence and skills. On the other hand, if they are overwhelmed with portfolio work or prep from school, then I pull back on homework requirements, leaving us to work through specific issues in the session.
Alongside the A-level work we may be working on, I always offer students a review of the university application personal statement, and interview preparation when reqiured. The latter has been particularly useful for students applying for medical and veterinary courses as well as the top universities including Oxford and Cambridge.
For the most part lessons are online, although I can tutor face to face from my residence (as long as there is another adult on site). When I first started off, I used to do house visits, but due to rising demand for my services, that became impracticable. However, whenever it is possible, I do like to meet and greet families either for a first consultation.
Yes, I hold an Enhanced DBS with the British Judo Association, which covers working with minors on the judo mats (throwing each other around!), and educational signed off DBS with Portsmouth University. I have taken many related courses including safeguarding, Prevent scheme, sports first aid, teenage mental health, self-harm, supporting anxious students, and child exploitation.
